Osler Committee Elections

30 March 2010 No Comment

Dear all 4th years,

The time of the year has come for ELECTIONS of the 2010-2011 Osler Committee.  Being on the committee is really fun, and this year there is so much potential to have a great time with Osler now that it is finally set up and running.  The committee have so much say as to what happens so if you want to see change or have any particular vision for Osler House and its members then please put yourself forward for one of the positions!

To remind you, the positions available are… (NB, the number of positions varies slightly from year to year depending on applicants..)

President (me)
Vice President (Juliet Raine)
Treasurer (Osman Khalid)
Entz – usually 3 (Pete Daum, Tom Barge, Jon Cleland)
Bar – usually 2 (Jonathan Curry, Huw Davies)
Welfare – usually 2 (Natalie Duric, Tom Campion)
Sports and socs – 1 or 2 (Anisha Ramessur, Eugene Ong)
Graduate – 1 or 2 (Suzanne Ryan, Anna Forbes)
Academic – 1 (George Chapman)
Alumni/fundraising – 1 (Katja Bett)
IT – usually 1 (James Kho, Nick Richens)

Selection of the new committee will follow a manifesto-husting-voting format.

There will be two rounds of hustings.

The first round will be sometime during the day on FRIDAY 16TH APRIL.  This will be for President, Vice President and Treasurer.  Each applicant must write a manifesto of max. 200 words which must be submitted by Saturday 10th April so that it can be circulated to all students to read before husting.  You are allowed to hust for a maximum of 5 minutes.  Applicants for each position will hust together, one after the other, and then there will be questions which all must answer.  There will then be an online voting system, and results will be announced by Friday 23rd April.

The second round of hustings will be in the early evening of FRIDAY 30TH APRIL.  These are for ALL other positions (i.e. everything apart from pres, vp and treas).  Those who are not elected as the president, VP or treasuerer are allowed to run for another position and hust again.  Manifestos must be in by Saturday 24th April and are to be max. 200 words.  If you are running for a position in a group then you should submit just one manifesto.  Hustings will be a maximum of 3 minutes, and then there will be questions.  Results will be announced by Friday 7th May.

So, by Friday 7th May, the whole committee will have been elected.  During May and the first couple of weeks of June, the outgoing committee will handover to the incoming committee and there will be a joint responsibility of roles.  The new committee will officially take over once term ends (Friday 18th June).

If you are interested, I would advise that you contact the relevant current committee member to find out about the role, there is often more involved than meets the eye..

Any questions, please don’t hestiate to ask me!

GOOD LUCK!!!

Sophie
